A helping hand to the elderly
We are all well acquainted with the fact that there is a great need in society. Rustenburg is no exception. Poverty is a fast spreading cancer since the economy has taken such a hit lately. With prices rapidly going up, it makes one ask the question whether those who are struggling are going to survive. A great concern is the elderly in Rustenburg. Especially those living in the municipal old age homes. A sad fact is that many of the elderly there was simply left and forgotten. They do receive a pension fund from the municipality, but this is only little more than one thousand rand according to Arie Benade. That is where the Helping hands ministry wants to make a difference.
This ministry of Agape Gemeente in Rustenburg strives to help the community and their latest project is to help and reach out to the elderly living in the municipal old age homes. “The idea is to make this a community project, not a church project. We want to involve the community in helping the elderly” says Arie. On the 20th April 2013 they will be visiting the old age home in Church Street. “The elderly living there have a desperate need. We will be spending time with them and also give them hygiene packages. ” These hygiene packages will include necessities like soap, shampoo, Toilet paper, tooth brushes and tooth paste among other things.
They are desperately looking for sponsors to help with these items, or anything regarding hygiene that can be given to the elderly. If you would like to lend a helping hand and feel that you want to support this cause you are more than welcome to sponsor a bottle of shampoo or hygiene supplies. Anything will be greatly appreciated. Anyone is also welcome to join Arie and his team when they visit the old age home on 20 April.
