Petrol bombing of Epol truck and Police successes
The police registered cases of Attempted murder and malicious damage to property after a petrol bomb was thrown at Epol truck on Friday, 7 June 2013 at approximately 21:15. It is alleged that the truck was approaching corner Beneden and Molen streets when two petrol bombs were thrown through the driver’s window by a group of people who were standing along the road.
According to information received, the driver sustained injuries on the head, neck, face, hands and thighs and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The truck was damaged on the roof, seat and steering wheel, and damages are estimated at R15 000.00. (Fifteen thousand rand) It is suspected that the incident is linked to strike and protest actions by Rainbow Chicken employees in Rustenburg. A petrol bomb was thrown at a bus that was carrying Rainbow Chicken employees last month whereby several people were injured. Nobody has been arrested on both incidents and investigation continues.
Meanwhile, detectives arrested a total of 180 suspects in various parts of the North West Province since 31 May until 7 June 2013. The arrest came as a result of weekly detective operations aimed at bringing wanted known and unknown suspects to book.
The suspects were arrested for various offences such as Assault GBH, Robbery aggravated, Murder, Rape, Burglary, Stock Theft, House robbery and other crimes. The highest number of suspects arrested is for Assault GBH and Assault Common with 73 and Rape with 31. Most of the suspects have already appeared before courts in various parts of the province.
