Barefoot for a day
Here is some more good news from the community. Rustenburg is a giving and caring city and the people mean to change the world. Fact is that many suffer all around the world and desperately needs the small things we take for granted. In developing countries some children have to walk kilometers/miles without shoes to food, school and to seek medical help. In Ethiopia alone approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease, caused by walking barefoot in Volcanic soil or on the rubbish dumps. (Consider The Phillipines and Guatemala as well) Podoconiosis is totally preventable with basic foot hygiene and wearing shoes.
It is exactly for these reasons that the Waterfall Congregation (Grasdakkerk) will be hosting a barefoot day on Sunday 14 April 2013. They are challenging everyone to walk barefoot for one day, to empathize with those human beings all over the world that go without shoes from day to day. At the same time they will be collecting shoes which can be distributed by Africa Missions in Rwanda to those who need it most. They will be concentrating on comfortable shoes like tackies, grasshoppers, etc. which can withstand the rough rural areas.
