The first Magalies Classics in Buffelspoort a huge success.
On Sunday, 27th July, the Buffelspoort Information and Tourism Association hosted the first “Magalies Classics” at the beautiful Kumbagana Game Reserve in the Rietfontein area. It was very well attended, with guests from far and wide. The sun shone and the music played. The performing artists included the Pretoria Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, under the leadership of Pienaar Fourie. They performed a delightful collection of music, with “The Lord of the Dance”, the “Fox and the Chicken” along with other well-known classical pieces, with soloists on the xylophone and the violin.
The Con Grazia ensemble also from Pretoria, a trio of very attractive sisters, played a number of instruments and gave a lively performance. The trio entertained the listeners with a wide selection of lighter music, including some of their own compositions. The audience was finally entertained by the Chamber Choir of the Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng, with wonderful harmonising and lyrics. The young singers also gave a rendition of well-known songs accompanied by their fellow pupils on piano, flute, guitars and drums. The day was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The venue, Kumbagana Game Reserve, owned by Chris and Erika Oppermann, was just perfect for the concert. They offered an extremely delightful buffet lunch. They will also be hosting the Suikerbos Festival this Saturday, 2nd.August, with a number of well-known Afrikaans singers participating. The reserve offers lovely accommodation, game drives, walking trails, a conference centre, etc.
The Buffelspoort Tourism Association is planning to make this a yearly happening over a couple of days with more venues and artists – a real classical festival. Any suggestions can be sent to Desiree at our office, mobile: 079 1190789, or email: buffelsvalley@gmail.com
