Lawyer arrested for killing five pedestrians
The police in Sun City arrested a 35-year-old suspect for allegedly killing five pedestrians on 1 April 2013 at about 04:02 in Lidig Street in Sun City. According to the information at our disposal, the suspect was driving his BMW X6 when he drove over 12 pedestrians killing five of them and critically injuring seven others. It is alleged that the suspect was driving near a local tavern when he drove over the pedestrians that were coming from the tavern. The police attended the scene and arrested the driver of the BMW X6 who is the suspect.
It is alleged that the suspect was driving drunk and alone in the car. Allegations further state that the suspect was driving at a high speed. It is also alleged that the driver sustained minor injuries on his left elbow. Families of the diseased have identified the diseased but at this stage we do not have the ages of some of the diseased as their families still needs to bring their identity documents. Paulos Lefakane (23), Tumelo Lekoba (20), Thabo Dipoe (25), Joyce Yende and Solomon Mokgosi are the people who died at the scene. Seven people who sustained serious injuries were taken to Moses Kotane hospital in Sun City where they are recovering.
The 35-year-old suspect faces charges of Drunk and Driving and Culpable Homicide. The suspect is expected to appear before the Mogwase Magistrate Court on Tuesday 2 April 2013. Investigation continues.
