Marikana murder and shooting
The North West Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after two men aged 47 and 40 respectively were allegedly shot at Wonderkop hostel, Marikana at around midday on Monday, 03 June 2013.
It is alleged that two unknown suspects arrived at the mine offices occupied by National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) to commit the ordeal. The suspects allegedly started shooting at one of the men who was outside the yard by then, when the victim allegedly ran back to the office and fell down. The other man who was in the office when the shooting started was allegedly going out to check what was happening and was also shot at. Preliminary investigation has revealed that approximately 16 empty cartridges were found on the scene.
The identity of deceased will be disclosed after the formal identification by the family on Thursday, 6 June 2013 while the identity of the injured man who is still in critical condition cannot be revealed due to security reasons.
The motive of the incident is still unknown and nobody has been arrested. The investigation regarding the matter continues and the situation continues to be unpredictable.
