The Wolverine Review
The latest addition to the X-men franchise: The Wolverine is a follow-up from both the events of X-men 3 and Wolverine: Origins. Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine, a nearly immortal mutant with the ability of instantaneous healing and razor sharp claws. Inspired by the original comics by Chris Claremont/Frank Miller 1980’s dealing with the character’s adventures in Japan as he fights ninjas in the ceremonial garb of the samurai.
Finding himself for the first time out of his depth, Wolverine faces a constant life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.
I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of emotional connection that is formed with the lead character. Logan (Wolverine) is facing great inner conflict regarding the fact that everyone he cares for always seem to get hurt in some way. He is also haunted by the memory of Jean Grey, a former love interest.
The action sequences and fight scenes were very appealing and special effects were quite spectacular although the amount of fight scenes is somewhat overpowering. As for story line I must admit that I was a bit disappointed as it could be more exciting.
Visual and audio effects: 7/10
Storyline: 6/10
Entertainment value: 7/10
This is a typical action packed superhero movie and is a definite winner for fans of the X-men series or superhero genre. The movie itself is definitely worth a watch. Be advised that this movie contains violence. Be sure to stay a bit after the movie ends, there might just be a surprise ending.
