Yesterday, on the 29th of July 2012 our South African swimmer Cameron van den Burgh grabbed the first gold for South Africa in the London 2012 Olympics.
He had an amazing race in the men’s 100m breaststroke rising above and beyond top competitors from the USA and Australia taking the gold and breaking the world record with a time of 58.46 seconds.
From the start of the race it was obvious that van den Burgh was serious about it and stuck his head out the front of other swimmers after the first 25m of the 100m race. What a perfect race it was from our South African swimmer.
Winning the gold at the Olympics is a great achievement and breaking a world record at that is even more of a blessing! Congratulations Cameron and South Africa!
